The annual costume institute met gala took place on the 2nd of May. With every year comes a new theme and this year it was in honor of the late genius Alexander McQueen. Of course it was a star studded event with models , designers, and movie stars from every age in attendance. I was expecting a lot of McQueen looks to be worn or at least outfits from other designers that personified the same high drama that Mcqueen's designs had, unfortunately I was hugely disappointed by how safe many of the looks were. Let's start off with the ladies who wore McQueen. Gisele Bundchen (above) chose a look from the archives, wearing a strapless fall 2005 fishtail gown. I much prefer the look as worn by jessica Stam on the runway it's much more dramatic and eye catching. On Gisele it just looks like any ordinary gown it loses it's appeal, but she does look gorgeous nonetheless.
Salma Hayek (left) looked incredible in a custom made nude organza gown with a rosette detail on the hip. I'm absolutely in love with Salma she's back to making good fashion choices and wearing what flatters her figure. Model Hilary Rhoda (right) opted out of wearing a gown and went for a unique choice in the form of a fishtail jacket from the spring 2011 collection by Sarah Burton. I think Hilary really pulls off the look, she looks AMAZING this is what McQueen is about.
Model Coco Rocha was my absolute favorite from this bunch she wore a 2011 pre-fall gown with feather detail at the hip. with the hair and makeup she exudes confidence.
Models Liu Wen (left) and Constance Jablonski (right) looked gorgeous, but i much prefer Liu's look the neckline on Constance's gown is a bit awkward.
Daphne Guinness wore a spring 2011 look. On the runway the dress is more ethereal and fairytale-esque ,on daphne on the other hand it looks like she's wearing a bird.
Naomi Campbell who was a close friend of McQueen's naturally wore a dress from the brand. She wore a modified version of a fall 2011 dress. In my opinion it's the worst Naomi's ever looked the gown is shapeless and makes her look wider than she really is.
