A look at the fashions at Cannes: Part 1

The Cannes Film Festval is one of the most prestegious film festivals in the world. Actors, and directors from all over the world attend the festival to compete for the "Golden Palm" the award for best film. Needless to say it's a huge production, it's full of glamour and elegance reminiscent of the golden era of movies. With that said stars have to bring their A-game fashion wise, and that's why I love the festival. With every red carpet picture you see an extravagant couture or a custom made gown from the various well known designers of the world, not to mention the beautiful jewels, who wouldn't want to be in their shoes *sigh* so let's take a breath and enjoy the view:

                                Diane Kruger:

Diane Kruger attended the premiere " Sleeping Beauty" wearing a shimmering backless gold sequin gown from Calvin Klein. It fits her like a glove, and there's no denying that she has a great figure, but this choice doesn't excite me I think she can do much better.

While posing at a photo call Diane wore a colorful and quirky dress by Prada. I really like this look it's very appropriate for a photocall I'm just having an issue with the socks, I mean I don't mind the shoes they're a unique touch, but the socks seem out of place.

While out and about in the streets of Cannes Diane chose to wear a chic ensemble consisting of a cruise 2011 Jean Paul Gaultier dress, Alexander Wang leopard print booties. Diane always takes risks with fashion, she never bores me on the red carpet. It's really hard to believe she doesn't have a stylist.

                  Salma Hayek:

Salma Hayek was in town to promote her new animated movie "Puss in Boots" with Antonio Banderas. She chose to wear a Gucci leather strapless dress from the fall 2011 collection, paired with a floral applique shrug. I don't know why she would pick a leather dress while the weather is warm in Cannes, I don't think it would have been comfortable for her to stay in way too long. Not my favorite look.

Fortunatley Salma redeemed her self at the opening ceremony of the Cannes film festival wearing a gorgeous Gucci Première gown. Her silk georgette gown is accented with crystals on the bodice which makes it even more glamorous. She looks like pure Hollywood royalty.

                       Penelope Cruz:

Penelope ws also on hand to promote her movie Pirate of The Caribean: On stranger Tides. She looked fabulous at the photocall (left) wearing a velvet blue column dress from Stella Mccartney's fall 2011 collection. It really is a perfect fit as it accentuates her body perfect. Her Marchesa dress for the premiere on the other hand didn't feel quite right to me it felt a bit snug and not very penelope I wish she had gone for something more demure and romantic.

             Uma Thurman:

Uma Thurman is on the panel of judges for Cannes Film Festival. The actress is known for her love for elegant and classic looks. At the opening ceremony she wore a strapless Versace gown form the fall 2011 collection, which I felt was a wrong choice for her I would have prefered to have seen this gown on someone like Beyonce or Rihanna they would have breathed some life into the look and gave it an edge. For her look for the Pirates of the Caribbean premiere Uma went back to Chanel's archives and chose a fall 2008 Haute couture  white satin and tulle gown. I just love it when celebrities choose looks from the archives a lot of the pieces deserve a chance in the spotlight, and I just love this dress on Uma Chanel seems to be a better fit for her.

At a Calvin Klein hosted party at Cannes Uma chose to wear a simply black column dress from the designer which i find is very boring. She was spotted around Cannes in a spring 2011 silk dress from Louis Vuitton which I don't like on her the piece looks cheap and the fit is off.

                              Rachel Mcadams:

Rachel Mcadams was at the festival to promote her movie "Midnight in Paris" she attended a premiere wearing a look from the Marchesa fall 2011 collection (the same collection as Penelope's dress) I didn't like this look at all, the Marchesa fall 2011 doesn't seem to translate well on the red carpet.

At the photocall she wore Maxime Simoens couture which I previously featured and absolutely loved!! At the "Sleeping Beauty" premiere Rachel really got me confused, I don't really know why she chose to wear Monique Lhuillier   bustier top and pants it seems a bit casual for Cannes, It would have been an appropriate choice for the People's Choice awards or Mtv Music awards not Cannes.
